| Serving RSS Feeds |
Since we established what RSS feeds are from a user perspective, earlier in this chapter, we now have to consider the possibility of becoming the one that hands out the feed.
Many blogs already have the option of creating an RSS feed from the blog entries that you create, and setting this up from within your blogging software is mostly done from within the administration interface.
When creating an RSS feed from your blog, you have to consider that your bandwidth will increase dramatically when more and more users subscribe to your feed. If you have sufficient bandwidth available, this may not be a problem. But, for most small companies that use a hosting provider for their website, bandwidth may cost several dollars per MB if you go over the monthly allotted amount... At this moment, you need to make sure that your blog pays for it self with direct or indirect income. When blogging about services or products from your own company, make sure that there are clear links to the subject you are writing about. If you cannot generate direct income, consider the placement of advertisements either within your RSS feed or on the pages.
FeedBurner is a service that can help spread the word of your blog. By publishing your blog through FeedBurner, you potentially increase the reach of your blog to the complete FeedBurner community.
